In the novel Around the World in Eighty Days, published in 1873 by French author Jules Verne, Phileas Fogg and his French valet, Passepartout, seek to travel around the world in eighty days or less on a bet. The novel was adapted as a radio play, 23 October 1938, by Orson Welles and the Mercury Theatre on the Air.
